In Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek), air pollution is primarily caused by emissions from over 23 million motorized vehicles, posing a serious threat to public health and well-being. To improve air quality, the Jakarta Provincial Government has introduced stricter regulations, including fines for vehicles that do not comply with emissions testing, as outlined in Governor Regulation No. 66 of 2020.
In this study, Populix and Vital Strategies conducted a two-phase online survey to assess public perceptions of air pollution and attitudes toward vehicle emissions testing in Greater Jakarta. The findings revealed that 97% of respondents own motorized vehicles, with many owning multiple vehicles, most of which are between 4 and 10 years old, making them subject to mandatory emissions testing. This report highlights the survey’s findings, exploring public awareness of emissions testing, fuel usage habits, and opinions on key policies like Low Emission Zones and Low Emission Vehicles.
